Our Healthy Bodies

Our Bodies - Make a large outline of a child's body out of paper and have it laminated. Also make up several body parts and organs made from drawings or photos and laminate also. If you have a younger group, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, heart, lungs and stomach would be good. For an older group, add liver, intestines, etc.
Making labels would also add to the lesson.
One way to help the kids attach the body parts on is with tape, but I like to use velcro strips. Place a small piece on the body part and them another on the child figure itself. Your bulletin board then becomes a participation activity.
A mini version of this could also be a great flannelboard activity.

Nutrition
I guess something to do with the food groups would be appropriate. Divide it in half and label one side "Eat a Lot of... " and label the other side "Eat a Little of..." Then the kids can help you decide which foods go on which side. For me, ice cream would be a toss-up though!!!

Health
"Wash Those Germs Away!!" draw and cut out a huge sink as if you were looking down into it. Have the kids each cut out or decorate some kind of "germ" from lots of colored paper. Display them all over the board with some of them going down the sink. Discuss all about germs and how they make you sick. An awesome book is called "Those Mean, Dirty, Downright Disgusting but Invisible Germs" (it's something close to that title)

Health
"Walk, Run, Jump, and Skip!" Cover your bulletin board with lots of magazine photos or real photos of people of all ages getting some exercise of some sorts. Make a chart with each child's name listed on one side and number of steps listed on the other side. Purchase a pedometer for each child who will be participating. (click here) You can choose whether or not to allow them to only track steps during the day or allow them to bring them home each day to keep track in the evening too. I personally wouldn't, but that's just my choice. And because all kids aren't in my care all day, we only track during the few hours that all kids are present; for example 9am - 4pm. Keep track of the steps, set goals, talk about the benefits of getting enough exercise, etc.
